What are the chances of getting pregnant naturally with PCOS?

I have PCOS and have done one cycle of IUI and 4 cycles of just clomid and have not gotten pregnant. I have a really hard time with these cycles especially the IUI because of the hormones that they use make me very emotional so I was just wonder what my chances of getting pregnant naturally were as I really don’t want to do another IUI cycle.

It’s pretty hard to get pregnant when you suffer from PCOS, but it IS possible, and some women manage to do conceive even without the aide of fertility drugs, or hormone treatment. It really all depends on your personal body, and immune system, etc etc. Because every woman is different, and every case of PCOS is also unique, which is a reason as to why it is so difficult to diagnose and treat.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you don’t ovulate with any regularity and the clomid did nothing to change this. By IUI, do you mean your using HGH to cause ovulation? Or clomid with an IUI? I also have PCOS, I did 6 rounds of clomid with no results (we never did IUI with clomid). After this I was referred to a reproductive endocrinologist for further evaluation. After a few months of initial testing and examinations, I started taking HGH injections to stimulate follicle growth on the ovaries. Once the follicles were determined to be mature (via daily ultrasounds), I took another drug to induce ovulation and arranged an IUI within a few days. With this treatment, I conceived first round, for two pregnancies. My first pregnancy (I was 35) was a singleton and my second (10 months after the birth of my first) was a twin pregnancy. While conceiving naturally with PCOS is very unlikely, primarily because ovulation is very irregular (in some cases once every few years) and cannot be anticipated due to it’s irregularity. That being said, my third pregnancy (singleton-he’s four months right now) was completely natural and very (happily) unexpected, so it’s not impossible. Most GYN’s have to follow a certain procedures in treatment (both ethically and for insurance reasons), to reduce unnecessary treatments (medically and financially). Standard of care in your case, would be six rounds of clomid (which is the recommended limit), then they’ll do some testing to check your fallopian tubes (hysterosalpingogram). Should that test come back normal, you’d be referred to an RE for evaluation. A few tests (hysteroscopy, genetics, antibodies, etc) with the RE and then you’ll discuss treatment, the obligation you’ll be expected to make and reference any moral issues that will have to be decided by you and your SO. Treatment at this level is much more controlled, dedicated and fine tuned. It requires and obligation from you (and your spouse) to agree to the conditions needed to do this intelligently and safely. I understand the frustrations (and doubts) your feeling over the situation, but I would seek out a RE before giving up on medical intervention. I’d also suggest you check out soulcysters.com (a forum for PCOS’ers) and do a good deal of research on PCOS. This isn’t just a fertility issue and shouldn’t be treated solely as one, since it has life long ramifications for us. You should seek out a primary care physician who either specializes in working with PCOS patients or is at least well educated on the syndrome.
my husband and i where together 4 years before i was diagnosed with
PCOS i finally went to the doc and she gave me Metformin and told me take omega-3 fish oil my sisterinlaw had same thing it took her 1 year on meds to get pregnant it took me 3 months and now im 16 weeks pregnant ask your doctor if you can try that. W/O meds of any kind it could take years. Good Luck Hope I helped.
Hey, a lot of women have been in your situation with PCOS and taking fertility meds like clomid and it hasn’t worked for them, then they gave up and went on a healthy low G.I diet and lost weight, got down to a normal bmi and then a couple/few months after that they found out they conceived.
If you’re overweight, try taking a break from the meds and embark on a healthy natural-foods diet, lose the excess weight and see what happens in the next 6 months.
I have PCOS too and losing weight really helps regulate my periods and eating healthy helps my skin breakout less….however if you are already slim and eat really healthily then there is nothing more you can do naturally, so I would go down the route that the poster above me mentioned, she seems really informed about what happens medically.

I’ve had PCOS for years, been on the BCP to regulate my periods and Metformin to help with the insulin resistance. I got married Sept 28 08 and stopped taking the BCP the beginning of OCT. I got pregnant mid NOV and the only thing I was on was the Metformin. So it only took a month and a half for me! I’m 27 weeks now with a very active baby girl!
Metformin worked amazing for me. I’m 5 4 tall and way overweight. I was told I would never get pregnant, or I would have a really hard time getting pregnant. Ha, showed them!
