pcos———-?
I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. I dont know anyone else who has this disease. My gyno ran alot of blood tests and MRIs and it all came back good except i have micro cysts on my pituitary gland and my ovaries dont function like a mature ovary should. I was birth control 2 years and came off it the beginning of last year. i never had a period for 10 months and at the beginning of nov i spotted 4 days and then at the begin of march this year i began to bleed bad and miscarried my first baby. i was told i was about 4 months PG and i didnt know until I miscarried. My husband and I want to have another baby soon. My gyno thinks i may not be able to and he has me on bromocriptine to help me have regular periods. He says that people with PCOS after taking this pill for a few weeks get PG. What I wanna know is there anyone else who has the same problem and knows what i should expect from this.

I have PCOS and got pregnant in a month and a half using Metformin. Go to a different doctor until you find one that is more positive. There are very few gynelogical problems that make you infertile. You are your only advocate. The only people that truly care about you getting pregnant are you and your husband. Don’t take your doctor’s answer. Push until you get the answer that you want, even if it means going to a new doctor(which I truly think is what you need to do.) Alot of women that have PCOS have miscarriages because of the insulin resistance. I was on Metformin for the first trimester, some women stay on Metformin for the whole pregnancy.
Good luck and stick up for yourself!
i have PCOS too. its actually very common now. I got pregnant on a combo of Clomid, and Metformin. Good luck! Most PCOS sufferers’ miscarry because they don’t have enough natural progesterone in them to sustain a pregnancy…ask you Gyno about that too…Good luck. Conception can happen, stay positive. I have gotten pregnant twice since i was diagnosed with it, and i have it pretty severely…~~Baby Dust To You!~~
I don’t have PCOS but I can tell you this…. PCOS is a complicated condition with lots of variables involved. Don’t take it as gospel truth when someone says you can’t get pregnant. Women with PCOS get pregnant all the time…some with help, some without.
You’ve been through a lot already and I would suggest that you go immediately to a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) for a consultation. An RE specializes in PCOS and women wanting to get pregnant. He/she will know things about your condition that your regular GYN doesn’t. Please go get a second opinion.
I am very sorry about your loss, I too miscarried at 4 months… and had seen ultrasound pictures of my baby and everything. It’s devastating enough, so please at least get yourself to a doctor that can really help you.
Good luck.
I have PCOS as well. There is an excellent site called soulcysters.net which has all the info you could ever wish for about PCOS, infertility, and meds. It is definitely possible to get pregnant with this disease, you just need to approach it the right way and utilize the right meds for your situation. I now have 4 children – 1 surprise w/no meds, twins conceived with an IUI, and another surprise conceived on Metforim. Don’t give up hope and good luck!
i am so sorry to hear about your loss.
did your doctor say you can’t get pregnant or that you probably can’t get pregnant without medical intervention? there is a big difference. if your doctor said you can’t get pregnant then find a new doctor b/c many women with pcso conceive and some even conceive naturally. your chances are much better with medical assistance.
so the bromocriptine will treat the pituitary growth which may make your other hormones come back into balance, but if not then you’ll probably need to explore treatments such as metformin and perhaps a fertility drug.
i did have a few questions abt your post that you may already have answers to or that you could ask your doc:
1) where you given any explanantion about the cause of miscarriage?
2) immature ovaries is not a symptom of pcos. did you mean that your ovaries don’t produce mature eggs which is a symptom of pcos?
3) if all your test were normal except for your pituitary growth then it doesn’t soundlike you have pcos. it sounds like you have prolactinoma which is a pituitary disorder which can impact fertility and should be corrected with bromocriptine. the symptoms can be similar to pcos.
i wish you all the best. this can all be so difficult to deal with. just know there will be bad days and there will be better days, but keep the faith b/c there are lots of happy endings.
