| "Have You Seen Lisa Olson's new Pregnancy System yet? It's called "Pregnancy Miracle" I've read the whole thing (all 250 pages) and there's some great information in there about how to naturally get pregnant without drugs, surgery or any kind of gimmicks. I highly recommend it - it's very honest and straightforward without all the hype and b.s. you see all over the net these days. Here's the website where you can get more information: Click Here --> Pregnancy Miracle |

No one really knows what causes PCOS. Some will say being overweight causes it…however there are plenty of thin PCOSers, and plenty of overweight women without it. PCOS tends to get worse with age and weight. There is also some genetic components to PCOS too.
Only a portion (about half) of women with PCOS have cystic ovaries (the name polycystic ovarian syndrome is very misleading). The cystic ovaries is just one of many symptoms of PCOS. PCOS is generally diagnosed based on symptoms. Here’s a list of some of the more common symptoms: irregular periods, lack of ovulation, acne, facial hair, thinning hair, excess belly weight, skin tags, dry brown patchy skin on the neck, depression, mood swings, and polycystic ovaries (or course there are a ton more). We also tend to have high cholesterol and high testosterone. Here’s some basic PCOS info and links for you:
PCOS is not curable, but is treatable and most women are able to get pregnant when the PCOS is treated correctly. Here’s some basic PCOS info for you.
I recommend seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. They are generally more knowledgeable about PCOS and the correct treatment. Unfortunately, many doctors are not aware of the proper treatment.
The underlying cause of PCOS is insulin resistance (IR). The best treatment for PCOS is going on an insulin sensitizing drug such as metformin (1500-2550mg per day) combined with a low carb diet and exercise. There are a few important things to know:
1. Many women "pass" the test for IR, but still respond positively from the metformin. No one knows exactlly why..my thought is that the test is not a sure fire way of detecting the IR.
2. You must be on a high enough dose of metformin. I’ve heard women complain that their bodies dont start working even though they’ve been on metformin for awhile. Some doctors are hesitant to up the dose past 1500mg…but for some of us it takes more. I don’t respond until my dose is around 2000mg a day.
3. It can take a few months on the correct dose, before your body is regulated.
4. It is important to treat your PCOS even if you are not trying to get pregnant. There are higher risks for many things (high blood pressure, blood clots, diabetes, and many other things) when you have PCOS, but if it is treated properly, then those risks are lowered.
When the PCOS is treated properly, all of your symptoms may not disappear, but they should improve some. It will also be a lot easier to lose weight (and keep it off). Our bodies work against us when we try to lose weight on our own, making it nearly impossible to lose weight.
There are TONS of books about PCOS and dieting. There are two that I recommend. Here’s the links at amazon for those:

I also recommend a couple web sites:

PCOS is short for polycystic ovarian sydrome. From what I was told, no one is quite sure what causes it. It can cause infertility although it does not make getting pregnant impossible. Just a bit more difficult with some people. Most but not all women who have this get cysts on their ovaries. Symptoms are things such as acne, excessive body hair, not ovulating, and such. Also your body could have a problem with insulin. I cant really explain that cuz I dont know that part in great detail. But it is treatable. Hope this helps.
PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Basically your body makes to much male hormone so it throws your entire body of center. Women with PCOS often have insulin resistance and are much more likey to have diabetes and heart problems as they age. The biggest concern for a lot of women with PCOS is Infertility. Since your body is not making the right amounts of hormones, your body has a really hard time releasing eggs (ovulating) and even if you do get pregnant, a lot of times you will miscarry because your body isn’t able to provide the correct hormonal environment to sustain a child. Women with PCOS will also have hirsutism (excess body hair) because of the increase in hormones.
