If you have pcos will insurance cover electrolysis?

Because I think that i may have pcos. And I was wondering since i know insurance doesn’t typically cover electrolysis unless it’s an illness or something like that.
and pcos is like a disease i guess (so i’ve heard). So, would it be covered by insurance or is it still considered cosmetic?

It is unlikely that electrolysis would be covered by insurance, even with PCOS. Generally, it would be considered a cosmetic procedure.
You can try asking your insurer directly, if you would like to be certain. (If there were any remote chance of approval, you’d need your physician to help you get a prior approval.)
However, I would say that 99.99999% of the time, a person is not going to be able to get electrolysis covered by a health insurance company
I have pcos too and although luckily i have very little symptoms exept acne.
The best thing to do would be to go to your doctor and explain how it makes you feel and if there is anythink they can do.
AS soon as i was diagnosed with PCOS ( around 4weeks ago) they changed my pill to dianette which is to combat acne and i dont know if it would help with unwanted hair also but know it is given to PCOS sufferers.
Another thing you could do is visit a salon which offers electrolysis and see what they can do for you, you may get it cheaper and i expect theyve had the same questions many a times before
Hope this has helped

Chances are that they will not cover it because there are other types of approved treatment (medication) that are less expensive. But a phone call to them or a written request would answer your question specific to your insurance company. That way, if further documentation from your doctor MIGHT get it covered, they would specify this and tell you where you need to send this info.
No, because electrolysis is to remove hair. The hair would have to be cancerous. Just the APPEARANCE of hair, makes it cosmetic. Even if you, a woman, grew a beard, the beard removal wouldn’t be covered – it’s elective, cosmetic.
I can’t think of anything, where ELECTROLYSIS is the medically necessary treatment. Anything electrolysis can do, a razor can do, cheaper.
