Metformin in many cases can help restore ovulation in women with PCOS, and help with regular menstrual cycles. If you're not already having regular cycles, and charting them, and monitoring ovulation, you may want to begin doing that. You can find more information about charting at the website fertilityfriend.com or in the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Have you checked with your doctor to make sure that spironalactone is okay to take during pregnancy? It may be a drug you want to stop taking before trying to concieve.

In Februrary, a new study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine about trying to concieve with PCOS, and they found that while metformin on its own can be affective, Clomid is more effective, and Clomid plus metformin is the most effective. Research carefully whether Clomid is something you want to try though-with PCOS, we're at higher risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome. Clomid also dries up cervical mucous for some women, leaving less fertile cervical mucous to help sperm along. There are other drugs that can help stimulate ovulation, and you may want to speak to your doctor or health care provider about what would work for you. Your regular ob/gyn may be able to help, or you may want to see a reproductive endocrinologist.

Folic acid will be a component in pre-natal vitamins that you can purchase over the counter at a drugstore, or you cau often purchase the supplement separately. Take it at least a month before beginning to ttc, and it can help reduce the risk of some kinds of birth defects.

Good Luck

You can get folic acid at any store. Acme, CVS, Eckert. I don't theink they increase your chances of getting pregnant, but folic acid is VERY important for the baby especially in the first 3 months of development. It would be a great idea to start taking it. Check with your doctor on how much to take. I can't remember if it was 800 or 1000.
